What are Checks and Balances?
In order to keep one branch of government from becoming more powerful than the other, we have checks and balances between the branches. These help to keep power distributed equally and allows for a just, and mostly fair form of government. We have the three branches, Legislative, Executive, and Judicial. The legislative branch is able to produce bills for laws, but the other two branches check this by the Executive being able to veto a bill, and the Judicial being able to interpret and declare a bill unconstitutional. The Executive Branch is able to send out forces and make executive commands, but the other two branches check it in this way, the Legislative branch funds the military, and the Judicial branch can declare executive commands unconstitutional. The Executive branch appoints supreme court justices, and the legislative branch (Senate) approves them.
